Photography Trip to Clifton Park

 Usually at this time of year, our whole department would have been venturing over to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to research artists, produce drawings and take photographs. Unfortunately, as with so many things this year, we were unable to go! So in place of this, our Photography students instead have had a lovely morning and afternoon out at Clifton Park doing photoshoots surrounding their concepts which they developed before half term. 

Luckily we just about avoided the rain and were actually treated to two glorious autumnal (albeit rather chilly!) days with some beautiful sunshine and a fantastic array of colours especially from the seasonal trees and dropped leaves. Starting at the museum, we took a slow walk around the park, stopping at areas such as the war memorial, the band stand, and the rockery. Each student focussed on their own concept, many took with them interesting props to photograph, the likes of which included umbrellas, mirrors, clingfilm, and even milk!! It was great to see everyone really getting stuck into it and working so well together, always being on hand to help out and model for each other!

Artist of the Month | September 2020

 Welcome everyone to our first Artist of the Month of this academic year! Our second year students will already be familiar with this, but for all our lovely new first years - hello! This is Artist of the Month. It is a post put together every month by all of the staff members in the art department, who each nominate students from their classes who have really impressed them that month. Whether that be the hard work and effort the student has put in, whether they've made an amazing outcome or piece of work, or maybe they were really ambitious in their project and took a risk! Whatever the reason, our teachers nominate the students that they feel really deserve the praise and have super work to show off! 

The start of this year has been completely different to any other year we have had, and it's a real tribute to the hard work and enthusiasm from so many of you how productive and enjoyable these last few weeks have been, and how much fantastic work has been produced under these strange and uncertain circumstances. So a massive well done to all of you for what you've already achieved over these first 4 weeks. It's been such a great start to the year, and our 6 nominations for this month are a prime example of this.

Artist of the Month | April 2020

We have a bumper filled edition of Artist of the Month for you this month folks! This week marks the 5^th week of college lockdown, 7^th if you include the Easter holidays! And we have been incredibly impressed by the amount of work and dedication so many of you have shown to your subjects. We understand that working from home, especially with such a practical subject, can be really tough, and being without the department and its facilities will have been a difficult environment to adapt to. Which is why we are super proud that so many of you are using so much initiative and imagination to get the work done. It is a real testament to your work ethic and you should all be very proud of yourselves for keeping going during such a crazy time, so well done to all of you for that.

Now as so many of you have really stepped up to the mark during this lockdown, it was near impossible to choose just one student for each subject, so we’ve nominated at least two for each! So a big congratulations to all our April Artists of the Month, keep up the hard work folks!
