Yorkshire Sculpture Park Trip | 2018

This years YSP trip with first year Fine Art, Graphics and Photography students was a gorgeous day of sunshine and a wonderful opportunity to see some of the stunning artwork and instillations currently on display. 

The current exhibitions that we visited were:

• Guiseppe Penone - A Tree in the Wood
• Chiharu Shiota - Beyond Time
• Ai Weiwei -Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads

Arriving just after 10 o'clock, we split into two groups to take turns visiting the exhibitions in the underground gallery and the chapel, while the other group would do expressive drawings and take photographs at the permanent Barbara Hepworth's and Ai Weiwei's Iron Tree. 

 We met back up for a quick lunch (with just enough time to get a group photograph!) and then headed down to the Sophie Ryder's and Ai Weiwei's Zodiac Heads, where Fine Art and Graphics produced extended studies of a sculpture of their choice, while Photography focused on triptych images. 

Before we knew it, it was time to head back! Once we were all back on the coach, we asked our students to give us feedback on their first term here at the TRC art department with our customary Learner Voice survey (blog post coming soon!)

It was, as always, a lovely day out, so thank you to all our students for being so terrific and hard working throughout the day! We had a great time! :)

TRAC Christmas Stalls | TRAC Tuesdays!

TRAC Tuesdays are now in full swing! This week James helped us package last weeks editioned prints as well as print some more cards. 

If you would like to get involved with either printing, designing or packaging products on a Tuesday lunch - please come along and join us!

TRAC Christmas Stalls | Preparation

Last Tuesday we had our first TRAC meeting of the year with both first years and second years attending and wanting to get involved with Thomas Rotherham Arts Collective! We have two stalls coming up in November, the Sheffield Print Fair at St Marys in Sheffield, and the Christmas Family Fayre at Magna, so we need to get cracking designing, print and packaging products! We had a very successful meeting with James, Amber, Chloe, Laura, Bushra, Sophie, Caleb, Deim and Mod:

Following this, we set up some screens to print over E block and during lunchtime today, where we editioned some of ex graphics student Sam Mangham-Ward's Sheffield prints, as well as some cards with some of ex-student Shannon Marriot's designs. We made a great start with stock taking and getting products printed! What a great start! 

Artist of the Month | September 2018

Welcome everyone to our first Artist of the Month for this academic year! It has certainly been a very busy four weeks for all of us, and we are so pleased with the wonderful cohort of students that have joined us for their first year in Art, Graphics and Photography!
For anyone who is new here, Artist of the Month is a tradition here in the Art Department where we nominate students from each subject and year group who have really impressed us with a super piece of work they've produced or their hard work and effort has really stood out to us that month. We then show off their work here on the blog and it is also displayed at the bottom of the stairs on the notice board. So with all that said....
