Forgotten Spaces - Wins second prize

Congratulations ‘Forgotten Spaces’
Congratulations to Art students who entered an Architecture competition in association with The Royal Institute of British Architects at Sheffield Hallam University. Despite stiff competition from undergraduates as well as other schools and colleges, they successfully secured second place and won £750 worth of resources for our Art Department.
The brief was entitled ‘Forgotten Spaces’. Students had to identify a ‘forgotten space’ within their local community, and come up with designs to re develop it. Our students chose The Belvedere and re designed it as a modern, communal Arts/Theatre centre complete with an amphitheatre. Their final designs were stunning and included a scale model as well as drawn visuals. Judges were extremely impressed with their innovative design and use of space, and said that it was a hard decision choosing between first and second place. Students enjoyed the Awards ceremony, meeting the Lord Mayor and mixing with the other competitors. Local newspapers took photographs and our students thoroughly enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame. Hopefully, the first 15 minutes of many more!
Well done to our budding student architects. This is a real achievement.
