Robert Rauschenberg- Painting/Collage

Rauschenberg, born in 1925, was a 20th century artist who broadened the horizons of what 'painting' could be, heavily utilising screen printing and collage and also painting on varied surfaces including canvas, board, fabric, sheet metal, Plexiglas, plaster, and paper. His 'Combines' series from the 1950s demonstrates this approach, combining traditional and non-traditional art materials.

Here are a few examples of his work. For more information on Rauschenberg, please visit the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation website.

Mark Bradford- Painting/Collage

Mark Bradford is a contemporary artist who calls himself a painter but his pieces can best be described as abstract collage. His work mixes high art and popular culture by building up layers of tattered billboards, posters, stencilled graffiti, logos and painting. The materials he uses for each piece are gathered in particular locations meaning each piece says something about a certain place.
