Another year - another YSP trip!
On the 18th of October the staff and AL students of the art department went on the annual trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. With hurricane Ophelia looming we were all on edge expecting floods of rain and high winds, but luckily we dodged it by the skin of our teeth and had a lovely crisp, autumnal and most importantly DRY day!
The current exhibitions that we chose to visit were:
- A collection of work by Alfredo Jaar at the Underground Gallery - this included 'The Garden of Good and Evil' which was situated just outside the gallery, 'A Hundred Times Nguyen' and an 8 minute instillation called 'The Sound of Silence' (Unfortunately no photography was allowed in the gallery at request of the artist)
- Ai Weiwei's 'Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads'
- Zak Ovè's 'Black and Blue: The Invisible Men and the Masque of Blackness'
This year we scheduled the day slightly different to previous years; spending the morning going to the exhibition at the underground gallery, visiting the Henry Moore's and Ai Weiwei's 'Iron Tree', then using the afternoon to split off into subjects specific tasks. Fine Art used this time to do sustained drawings of the Elisabeth Frink 'Riace Figures', Graphics went to the YSP shop to look at product design, and Photography looked at the Barbara Hepworth's 'Family of Man' to photograph triptychs. Then we all met up down near Sophie Ryder to look at the current open air exhibitions by Ai Weiwei and Zak Ové. Before we knew it - it was time to get back on the coach! It was a splendid day as always and thank you to our AL students for being such a pleasure, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
