2 - Unit 2 Example Project - Fine Art - Mystery and Imagination

This is a Unit 2 Example from Sam, an AS Student in 2011.  The theme was Mystery and Imagination, the students were given 7 weeks of preparation time to produce their journals and plan a final outcome to be produced in a times 8 hour exam period

He made his own A2 size journal as well as an additional notebook and several pieces of wall work.  Please click on the images to enlarge them.

This project is cueently on display on the Psychology corridor in the Main Building, with some wall work on the M00 corridor (just off reception)  if you would like to see it in the flesh.

Well Done Rachel! Competition Winner!

I am sure many of you are familiar with Rachel Sanderson, who has brightened many a long day at TRC by walking around wearing chickens and sweet wrappers in her hair! I am very pleased to report that she has just won first prize in an online gallery competition we entered, run by Specialist Craft Magazine. They were particularly impressed with one of her pieces of sculptural plaster and stich art from her ‘Deconstruction’ series and singled this out as the winning piece. Rachel produced this as part of her A2 Art exam. It is currently on display along the accounts corridor opposite the entrance to Richards’s office and is well worth a look. Rachel won £75 in vouchers to spend on Art materials at Specialist Craft.  A perfectly timed and well deserved prize as she is just about to embark on her new life as Fine Art student at Newcastle University.  Rachel did very well at TRC achieving 100% marks and A* in A2 Fine Art. I am sure she will make an equally memorable and good impression at Newcastle and on behalf of the Art Department and TRC we wish her well.

Artists of the Month - September 2011

For those of you new to the Department, every month the we choose students from AS and A2 who have been producing excellent work as our 'Artists of the Month'.  For the whole of that month an example of their work is displayed in the reception area.  For September we have chosen some work produced by the A2's over the summer break, we will soon be thinking about who to choose for October so keep up the good work!

Well done to all you A2's on your results and welcome back to the Department!

And welcome to all the new AS students, have a wonder around the department, have a look at the work on the walls and make yourself at home.  This is our blog, where we share Artists, examples of work and other things that we like.  If you came to the Induction session, have a look here.

You can use the blog to search for Artists by name, technique or subject matter using the labels down the right hand side.
